Plague kills 20 carabaos, cows in Bohol

TAGBILARAN, Bohol - Only three months into 2006, yet 20 cows and carabaos in Bohol have already been confirmed dead due to hemorrhagic septicemia (hemosep), prompting Gov. Erico Aumentado to ask the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) to provide vaccinesand medicines to supplement the meager resources of local government units in fighting the livestock disease.Dr. Stella Marie Lapiz, provincial veterinarian, reported to Aumentado that for January, February and March, barangay livestock aides (Balas), livestock technicians (LTs) and municipal agricultural officers (MAOs) of 25 towns have reported a total of 549 suspected hemosep cases.
