WHICH is more important, the welfare of the consumers of the profitability of the producers? The bickering between meat and processors and hog raisers has come down to this one piercing question that now challenges the country's allegiance to the World Trade Organization (WTO). According to the Philippine Association of Meat Processors, Inc (PAMPI), a group of 34 food processors with a combined annual production of P60 billion, processed meat products have given the poof consumers a respite from high prices of locally produced pork.
