Performance and profitability of goats as influenced by CASREN interventions in lowland rain-fed areas of Pangasinan

Farm income under lowland rainfed condition is relatively marginal. Farmers earn an average monthly income of less than US$75 as a result of low crop yield, low market price of crops and biophysical constraints. The contribution of animals under a crop-livestock system is less than 10% of the household income. This is relatively small, but could still be increased if appropriate technology interventions could be instituted. The effects of Crop-Animal Research Network's (CASREN) espoused technology interventions on the performance and profitability of goats in lowland rainfed areas of selected towns in Pangasinan were determined and compared with raisers without interventions.
