The durian fruit, considered as one of the country's bankable fruits for its export potential, is projected to gain some competitive edge in the export market among other tropical fruits as a result of a new technology developed by horticulturists inMindanao. The technology is a breakthrough in the production of large-size durian planting materials, giving the Philippines some competitive advantage over durian exporting countries such as Indonesia. The new technology was developed by Dr. Pablito P.Pamplona, director of the Central Mindanao Agriculture and Resources Research and Development Consortium (Cemarrdec) tased at the University of Southern Mindanao in Cabeoan, Cotabato and program specialist Marissa E. Garcia.
