Vegetable growers in Benguet and ML Province now use only small amounts of chemical insecticides compared with previous years, according to latest reports. The two provinces are the major producers of temperate vegetables nationwide. In 1992, the frequency of insecticide spraying by local farmers was highest at more than 20 times for a whole cropping period of over 90 days. A year before, Benguet growers used up to 500 tons of pesticides in vegetable production.
