Survey on the prevalence of antibodies to porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) virus among swine in major swine-raising areas in the Philippines

2,891 porcine serum samples were collected from major swine-producing regions of the country and were tested at the Virology Laboratories, PAHC, BAI, using Idexx PRRS-ELISA. Results shows that 1411 of these samples are positive to antibodies against PRRS Virus. Five hundred forty-four out of 1,144 serum samples from boars and sows have antibodies against the virus; 300 out of 640 serum samples from piglets over 8 weeks are likewise positive. And similarly, 571 out of 1,118 serum samples from market hogs and replacement gilts have antibodies against the virus. From a total of 170 herds which participated in this survey, 110 herds have been/are exposed to the virus.
