Sugar surplus pushes prices down

Global sugar surplus from the last cropping season has triggered a significant slide in prices of the commodity. Just how much surplus sugar eventually reach market shelves remains, for now, uncertain, says the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).But early reports of surplus were enough to dampen International Sugar Agreement (ISA) prices. During the first four months of this year, average ISA prices declined by 12 per cent below the corresponding period last year, the United Nations agency adds.
