Identification and characterization of canine microsatellite markers in cardiac genes

Source/description: Sudden death because of inherited cardiac disease occurs in people and many dog breeds. Despite significant advances in the study of inherited arrhythmias in humans, little progress has been made to identify causative or modifier genes for arrhythmogenesis in dogs. In order to generate polymorphic markers useful for genetic studies of cardiac arrhythmias and other diseases in dogs, we previously identified 33 microsatellite sequences within or tightly linked to 17 genes with potential cardiac function.
