Scientific frameworks for conservation and management are based on two main paradigms: "estimation of population status" and "evaluation of management procedure", in which model-based management procedures have been playing a central role. In this paper, two well-known management approaches for marine mammals, the Potential Biological Removal (PBR) and Revised Management Procedure (RMP), were introduced and reviewed by a mainstream framework of the Management Strategy Evaluation (MSE). Some recent topics on this field were also overviewed.
