摘要

The new 7 Series employs a multi-material body structure that cuts vehicle weight by as much as 130 kg (286 lb). Called Carbon Core, and derived from the development of its i cars (i3 and i8), the composite construction features a combination of CFRP (carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic), ultra-high-tensile steel, and aluminum. The body design also increases the strength and rigidity of the passenger cell. The joining technologies for the dissimilar materials were crucial in making the 7 Series structure possible, with structural adhesives a key enabling technology.
