Indonesia is on its way from being a big ore and coal miner to becoming a major metal force in East Asia. The country is already a giant ore miner for various industrial metals. Regarding nickel, Indonesia is the world's largest miner with a share of 24 of the world's total production. For tin, Indonesia is the second biggest miner with a world share of 19. Concerning Bauxite, the base commodity for producing aluminium, Indonesia has a share of 9, which equals the fourth rank in the world. Regarding copper, the country's share is 9 again, which secures the twelfth position in the world. Traditionally, Indonesia exported ore to a huge number of metal producing countries. However, nowadays, the Indonesian government is working hard to change this. The major aim is to produce metal and so set up major metal consuming industries. To achieve this, more and more hurdles to ore exports are introduced. One day in the foreseeable future, it will not be possible to export ore at all.
