Abstract Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) leaf spot symptoms were observed in various fields in Mauritius. The causal agent of this disease was identified as Cladosporium tenuissimum by both morphological and molecular characterization. A representative isolate was sequenced and deposited on GenBank. Phylogenetic analysis showed that the isolate was grouped with reference isolates of Cladosporium tenuissimum. Pathogenicity test was conducted by inoculating healthy 6 weeks old tomato plants with fungal suspension of Cladosporium tenuissimum and Koch’s postulates were fulfilled by phytopathogen re-isolation and identification. This study provides the first report of the occurrence of Cladosporium tenuissimum on Solanum lycopersicum causing leaf spots in Mauritius and worldwide.
