4B Engineering and Consulting LLC, the company owned by longtime Water Well Journal columnist Ed Butts, PE, CPI, has earned a National Ground Water Association Outstanding Groundwater Project Award. The company, which is located in Salem, Oregon, was recognized in the project category of groundwater protection for its "City of Keizer Risk and Resilience Assessment." The purpose of the project was to develop a risk and resilience assessment of the city of Keizer's water system along with operational and management techniques that enable continued operation while also planning for specific threats and hazards. The assessment evaluates the protection of groundwater and the overall system resilience in various emergency and natural disaster situations and guides the city's effort to ensure the availability of drinking water in case of emergencies.
