ITT Flygt is constantly trying to improve the specification of the seals on its pumps - particularly resistance to aggressive media - in order to reduce downtime and widen applications, report Dr STEVE MINETT and KELD FENWICK. Sandvik Hard Materials, one of the company's main suppliers of tungsten carbide seal rings, has been a long term partner in this process.Operators of submersible pumps are demanding increasing reliability and at the same time requiring their pumps to work under harsher conditions. Primary seal rings are crucial components of submersible pumps and failure can halt production, so ITT Flygt is seeking to fit rings with increased performance and working with suppliers to meet future demands for pumps in new applications.
