Electric Volvo C30 showcases how EVs meet safety targets

INDIANAPOLIS - The electric Volvo C30 displayed here last month is headed soon for a grisly end. After a stop here at the factory that supplies its lithium ion batteries and another appearance last week at the Chicago Auto Show, it heads back to Sweden for a high-speed, life-ending smack into a crash-test barrier. But its death will come so other C30s may live; the crash test is part of the sales certification in Europe. In the first quarter of 2011, Volvo plans to begin limited production of the electric C30 for sale to fleets in Europe.
