Very few farmers have so far been paid for sequestering carbon within an arable rotation, but opportunities are beginning to open up, both globally and in the UK.Carl Krefting, who farms about 400ha at Showsley Farm, near Tow-cester, Northamptonshire, is one of the first in the UK to enter into a project where commercial companies are paying for both carbon offsets and additional ecosystem service benefits.
