WASHINGTON - General Motors is recalling about 858,000 cars and trucks built for the 2006-08 model years because a system that heats windshield washer fluid sometimes malfunctions. GM told regulators that a short in a circuit board for the fluid heater, called HotShot, can disrupt operation of other electrical features, produce smoke and odor and create a fire hazard. The system was produced by Microheat Inc., of suburban Detroit.
