One of the main takeaways from IDEA2023, the International District Energy Association's 114th annual industry conference, was that district energy system expansion is occurring globally, influenced by policy and market forces and in some cases by geopolitical tensions over fuel-source supply chains. IDEA'S base showed up in force for the event, June 5-8 in Chicago, with over 830 registered attendees from nearly 300 cities in more than 60 states, provinces and countries. Over 300 companies and organizations were represented, and participants included nearly 300 first-time attendees and a record percentage of women.
