Andre van Linden, Director Scientific Academic Partnerships at Akzo Nobel RD, emphasises that "bio-based" doesn't mean that a prod- uct's performance is less impressive. The topic bio-based is on everyone's lips, but what is the current status here? We continue to see more and more bio-based products coming to the market. We see a lot of modern products where drop-in or new bio-based raw materials are used (to replace the old fossil-based raw materials). The cost price for bio-based materials is still higher, and this often hampers market roll-out, especially when other factors create economic pressure. In general, however, we are seeing growing environmental sav-viness and a focus on well-being, with more and more customers willing to pay a little bit extra for that now.
