AN UPDATED DISTRIBUTION OF ALDERFLIES (MEGALOPTERA: SIALIDAE) IN DEVON AND CORNWALL

The English south-west counties of Devon and Cornwall are home to all three resident species of Sialidae in the United Kingdom. Two of the species, Sialis fuliginosa Pictet and Sialis nigripes Pictet, are rarely recorded in the region. Updated distribution maps of sialid species were produced by collating records from the British Isles Neuropterida Recording Scheme, Lacewing Digital Library, Natural History Museum London Online Data Portal,a literature search, and Malaise trap samples from Westcountry Rivers Trust. A new vice county record is provided for Sialis nigripes in West Cornwall(YC 2).
