The silicones industry could emerge relatively unscathed from the global market downturn linked to the Covid-19 pandemic-feedback from market analysts and industry players suggests. Overall, the pandemic is expected to have pushed silicone industry sales down by more than 8 in 2020, according to Kent Furst, Freedonia Group manager of polymers and materials. Automotive, personal care and construction suppliers bore the brunt of the declines-as much as 15-25 in the second quarter-whereas medical, with its protective equipment and ventilator projects, saw high demand for silicone products.
