Indian star wrestler Bajrang Punia has created history in the World Senior Wrestling Championship 2022 in Belgrade. Punia won the bronze medal in the men's 65kg freestyle weight category. With this, Punia became the first Indian wrestler to win four medals in the World Senior Wrestling Championship. He defeated Sebastian Rivera of Puerto Rico 11 -9 in the bronze medal match. It is pertinent to mention here that in the very first round, Bajrang's head collided with the opponent's head, causing a huge cut. Since his head repeatedly hit the opponent's body in this game, he started bleeding during the match. Despite this, his performance is commendable. It is also worth mentioning here that Bajrang Punia won bronze medal in Tokyo Olympics 2020 and recently gold medal in 2022 Commonwealth Games. Punia was trailing 0-6 in this match, but he made a tremendous comeback and won the bronze medal. Shri Anand Dubey, working in the Ministry of Railways, accompanied Punia as a physio. Vinesh Phogat of Indian Railways brought laurels to India and Indian Railways by winning a bronze medal in the 53 kg category at the World Senior Wrestling Championship 2022 held in Belgrade, Serbia from 8th to 18th September, 2022. She won the bronze medal by defeatingjoanna Mamgren of Sweden 8-0. She is the first Indian to win 2 medals in this much-coveted competition.
