After delays of more than 40 years, Algeria, Niger and Nigeria have set up a task force on building the 2,565-mile (4,128-km) Trans-Saharan gas pipeline. The estimated $13 billion project could supply Europe with 1 Tcf (30 Bcm) of gas annually. "(The pipeline) should allow Europe to diversify its sources of natural gas supply but also allow several African states to access this high value energy source," according to a statement by Niger's oil ministry.
