I MADE THIS BOOK AN EARLY CHRISTMASpresent to myself and bought a copy as soon asit became available late last year, despite it beingfreely available online. This may have been in partbecause of fond memories going back manymoons to when I was a student at CanterburyUniversity in New Zealand, working through earlyeditions of one of the editors’ timber and fi re safetyguides; and reminiscing about that bright yellowsoft copy, which over time earned its dog-ears,tabs and mug stains speaking of caff eine-fuelledlate nights in the library pre-exams.
