Europe TDI shortages could persist until September - sources

LONDON (ICIS)--The severe supply shortages plaguing the European toluene di- isocyanate (TDI) market could last until at least September, sources said this week. For many weeks both recent and ongoing planned and unplanned production issues have impacted the market. “Looking forward to July, some plants will go into maintenance,” a trader said. “July could be worse than June [in terms of supply]. There may be some relief in August because of the holidays, but some plants will be in maintenance then too. In September, if the production situation has not improved it will be very much worse, because demand will be strong. Prices will continue to rise. We have not reached the historical level yet. Such a price is possible.”
