IIF-Eastern Region in association with Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Govt of India organised a workshop on the topic "Energy and resource mapping of MSME clusters in foundry sector" on Oct 7, 2021. Prof (Dr) Goutam Sutradhar, Chairman, IIF-ER in his welcome address highlighted the importance of MSME sector in the country's growing economy. He said that small and medium size foundries are majority in the industry. He informed that BEE had earlier conducted energy audit in Howrah foundries. He then pointed out that China, the largest producer of castings in the world, is far ahead of India in respect of efficient use of energy in foundry industry. In India, especially Howrah foundries, there is huge scope of energy conservation without investing a lot of money. Only small technical changes and corrective measures could bring about significant energy savings.
