摘要

Popular wisdom (and some empirical studies) suggests drivers are more likely to crash close to home. This is because most driving occurs close to home, and by implication, the likelihood of crashing is elevated due to more driving on those roads. Other plausible explanations for this elevated crash risk is that familiarity brings a psychological feeling of safety, so drivers may engage in more-risky behaviors while driving closer to home.
