A manufacturer of healthcare consumable products has been ordered to pay a fine and costs totalling more than a quarter of a million pounds after workers were exposed to vibrating tools over many years. Newport Magistrates' Court heard that employees of Frontier Plastics Ltd worked at the company's Blackwood site in Gwent for extended periods using vibrating tools including strimmers, hedge cutters, grinders, drills and linishers, without suitable controls to reduce the risks. As a result, two employees were diagnosed with hand-arm vibration syndrome. One of these workers had been using vibrating tools since starting work at the company in 1991.
