The effect of dietary Pistacia atlantica oil on performance and pathology in chukar partridges is described. Weight gain, feed intake and conversion ratio were determined in 3 groups of 18 day old chukar partridge chicks each, given a control diet orsupplemented with 150 and 400 mg/kg Pistacia atlantica oil, respectively. Antibody titers (HI test) against influenza vaccine and necropsy pathology are described. Chicks fed 150 mg/kg Pistacia atlantica oil did not have differences in body weight gain or feed conversion ratio compared with controls. However, birds fed on diet with 400 mg/kg Pistacia atlantica oil had improved body weight gain and feed conversion ratios (~0.1-0.5). There was no difference in HI antibody titers or pathology necropsy between groups. Findings suggest Pistacia atlantica oil may promote growth in chukar partridges.
