UK’s BP, China’s CNPC to explore shale gas at Sichuan Basin

LONDON (ICIS)--BP and China’s peer China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) have signed an agreement for shale gas exploration, development and production in the south western Chinese basin of Sichuan, the UK energy major said on Thursday. The two companies’ production sharing contract (PSC) for shale gas exploration will focus on the Neijiang-Dazu in the Sichuan Basin, covering an area of approximately 1,500 square kilometres, with CNPC as the project’s operator.
