In the Volume 13, No. 3, Fall 2018 issue of Digital Machinist, Blaine Geddes' (BG) article "Building a DRO for a Mitutoyo Linear Scale" piqued my interest. It looked like a fun project! However, for reasons which are no longer clear, nothing was done; other projects found their ways into the infinite queue and eventually Blaine's project faded from prominence. Then, in Spring 2022 the product of that project appears in another article from BG. This time, my project queue was shorter; a Mitutoyo AT715-300 scale was purchased on eBay and a new project was begun to facilitate others to reproduce this project easily. The emphasis will be on showing how things were done, not just what was done. So, the final result will be all the Gerber files to have a PCB made, the code I developed in the Arduino IDE, and construction details, including a bill of materials (BOM) for packaging into what I hope you find to be a professional looking project.
