Norway wants Europe to commit on gas

NORWAY'S oil and gas producers need assurances from Europe if they are to further increase production and exports, Norwegian Petroleum Energy Minister Terje Lien Aasland told Upstream in an exclusive interview. The country has been producing natural gas at full capacity since the European energy crunch began last the autumn, and has signalled its readiness to supply more after Russia invaded Ukraine in February. A recently updated estimate by the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate forecast gas sales hitting a record 122 billion cubic metres in 2022, some 9 Bcm higher than in 2021.
