This invention provides a method where the user equipment (UE)/ telematics unit optimizes MQTT connection based on power budget and cost. The UE/telematics unit monitors power consumption at every MQTT interval. If the Power Degradation is greater than the defined threshold, then check whether the rate of conservation of power is significant e.g., x Better. If yes, readjust the MQTT connection timeline based on cost metrics. If no, continue with current MQTT interval till energy budget is all consumed or an interrupt due to plug-in charge status for the vehicle becomes true. if energy budget consumed, then switch to alternative comm. links such as SMS based on cost metrics. If the interrupt due to charging battery is true, then recalculate the battery limit at end of the charge cycle and readjust the MQTT interval timeline as shown in Flowchart 1.
