摘要

The harvesting of wind power to cope up with the energy demands of the world makes a paradigm shift from the conservative energy resources to non-conservative energy resources. This work focuses on the performance variation of a Vertical Axis Wind Turbine by changing the various parameters with a view for its application to marine vehicles. Different blades were considered during the analysis. CAD models were constructed using SOLIDEDGE V2019. ANSYS R21 was used for the CFD analysis. Aspect ratio, number of blades and drag are found to be some of the leading factors affecting the performance of a turbine. Turbine blades which have lower aspect ratio produce a greater power output and vice-versa. Increasing the number of blades does not necessarily increase the performance of the turbine and it entirely depends on the blade profile. Increasing the number of blades in the turbine increase the overall drag and vice-versa. Reducing the number of blades increases the fluctuation in the power output because wind is not able to strike the blade continuously.
