A US development group has unveiled plans to build a $3 billion clean ammonia production facility in West Virginia, with construction set to begin next year. The plant, located in Mingo County in the southern part of the state, would have an initial production capacity of around 2.2 million tons of ammonia per year, or about 6,000 tons per day, making it one of the largest such facilities in the US. Ammonia produced with near-zero emissions is emerging as a key tool to decarbonize a variety of sectors ranging from agriculture to transportation. It can be used as a fuel itself or as a "carrier" molecule to enable the transportation of clean hydrogen.
