Brian Hurley, the chairman of Diggers and Dealers Mining forum says "This year was a little more sombre than I expected," of the 12th annual mining industry event recently held in the Western Australian town of Kalgoorlie from 26-28 July 2004. "This surprised me because with the gold prices (in Australia) up I expected champagne corks popping all over the place!"
