Railway to boost mining and minerals in South Australia and the NT

Like the great transcontinental railways across Russia, the US and Canada, the extension of the rail from Alice Springs to Darwin - with first freight trains running early next year - is likely to make a number of already known projects commercially feasible. FreightLink, based in Adelaide, which will be operating the 3000km long rail line, says it has already begun consultations around a number of value-adding opportunities in the mining, and oil and gas industries. A number of opportunities have been identified, particularly large mineral projects that are set to generate economic activity and contribute to economic development in and around the central railway corridor.
