Ranking sports teams and predicting post-season results from seasonal games can be challenging. Among the many mathematically inspired sports ranking systems, the Massey method is relatively simple and can easily be introduced to undergraduate students who have taken a linear algebra course. One way to possibly improve this method for ranking and predicting future outcomes is by introducing weights to its system of equations. In this research, we share our results of testing whether incorporating the dropped score of a golf match improves the un-weighted Massey model for NCAA Division II Golf results. We also incorporated other scoring schemes within our Massey-based model.
