Different molar reactions of monobasic bidentate imines, N-(o-tolyl)salicylaldimine, N-(p-tolyl)salicylaldimine, N-(n-butyl)salicylaldimine, N-(n-propyl)salicylaldimine, 4-(n-propyl)amino-3-pentane-2-one, benzaldehyde semicarbazone and benzaldehyde thiosemicarbazone with Nb(OPri)5in anhydrous benzene yield complexes of the type Nb(OPri)5-n(SB)n(where n = 1, 2 or 3 and SBH represents the ligand molecule). The resulting derivatives are coloured solids or semisolids, non-electrolytes and monomeric in nature. Their IR,1H NMR and electronic spectral data along with their magnetic susceptibilities have been presented in support of the proposed structures.
