NIKE sports shoes have a global footprint. Literally. The Oregon-headquartered company posted revenues of $11.3bn for the three months ending November 30 and generated a net profit of $1.3bn. Its sportswear is made all over the world and worn all over the world. No wonder the Nike sneaker is the accepted unit of currency in most discussions of maritime decarbonisation. Is it accurate to suggest that the transition from fossil fuels to green alternatives in ships would add only a dollar or two to the cost of a $100 sneaker?
