Dodge found itself in a jam for 1962. In a major miscalculation, the standard Plymouths and Dodges were downsized to almost midsized proportions. Plus, DeSoto, which sold a full-size car priced between Dodge and Chrysler, had been killed almost as soon as the 1961 model year began. The only reasonably priced big Mopar car was the Chrysler Newport.
