Caelatoglanis zonatus, a new genus and species of the Erethistidae (Teleostei: Siluriformes) from Myanmar, with comments on the nomenclature of Laguvia and Hara species

Caelatoglanis zonatus, a new genus and species of erethistid catfish, is described from the Ataran River drainage in Myanmar. It differs from other erethistids in possessing a strongly plicate upper lip and a thoracic adhesive apparatus consisting oflongitudinal pleats of skin without a median depression. It can be further diagnosed by the following unique combination of characters: well-developed third to fifth interneurals, which are approximately half the width of the first two interneurals, a deep median cleft in the mesethmoid, the neural spines of the first four to five postanal vertebrae prominently expanded distally, anal-fin radials expanded and closely associated with hemal spines of vertebrae immediately anterior, and the lateroposterioredge of the lachrymal in contact with the lateral ethmoid. A specimen of Hara hara is designated as the neotype of Pimdodus asperus, the type species of Laguvia. The same specimen is designated as the neotype of Hara hara; this makes Laguvia an objective junior synonym of Hara. A possible case of mimicry involving C. zonatus and Akysis vespa is mentioned.
