Software and audio processing algorithms are used to make vehicle chimes / alerts inaudible to the far-side of ongoing hands-free phone calls. A user setting could be offered to disable this function. A-priori information of imminent driver notification/ user-alert/ audio artifact can be used for effective noise-cancelation. For instance, certain audio alerts are triggered by vehicle interfaces such as Serial Data or CAN messages. This can provide real-time a-priori information for an upcoming audio alert. This cancellation is applied at the vehicle-side microphone input before the audio is passed to the hands-free device at the far end. The chimes, tones, beeps and speech feedback prompts in the vehicle comprise a deterministic set of audio interferences that could occur during a handsfree phone call or an active speech session.
