Our tutor stepped in late but 'hit the ground running', even managing a pre-visit to Writtle's wonderful gardens. We began our week with learning bundling and folding methods, using fabric and paper, and soon tightly bound samples of cotton and silk were steaming, which, when opened, elicited cries of delight. Having been guided through the printing properties of plants, we created our own reference 'library' of leaves. We moved on to natural silk dyeing and wrapping in 'blankets' of cochineal and logwood, before transforming old white cotton T-shirts into upcycled eye-catching tops. Louise's incomparable tuition and freely shared experience produced a wealth of items for the Open Day display, all much admired by the visitors.
