In 2019, Wrightbus was a company in the headlines for all the wrong reasons when it went into administration. Brought back from the brink thanks to an acquisition from JCB heir Jo Bamford, the company has defied the global pandemic to build its workforce back up and release several nev products. My visit, the first by the bus industry press since the company takeover, made it clear the business is in good health. Orders are coming through to sustain the four chassis production lines on what is a remarkably tidy factory floor, operating four days per week. There is capacity to build more than 2,000 buses per year, and plenty of growing space for the ramping up of zero-emission vehicle manufacture. After a stop at security to check I wasn't bringing Covid-19 into the facility, I met with Neil Collins and John McLeister from the senior leadership team.
