A great shock was felt in the automotive industry in late January 2011 when Prime Minister, Julia Gillard announced that the Green Car Innovation Fund (GCIF), a key plank in the government's A New Car Plan for a Greener Future program, would be abolished. This program was one of a number of "green" programs targeted for abolition to fund flood recovery efforts in large parts of eastern Australia. I noted that the Australian Greens negotiated for some programs to be reinstated. But let's talk about the GCIF.
