Magazine lead times are such that by the time you read this, the two things weighing most heavily on construction might well have been resolved. Here's hoping. Both concerns create a kind of cognitive dissonance because they are problems caused by other problems, at a scale too awful to properly contemplate. It seems selfish and small-minded to complain about steeply rising prices of timber and steel when the trigger for that inflation is the senseless and barbaric war in Ukraine, in which lives are being lost and families ripped apart. Is it right to worry that businesses might fold and jobs be lost, when measured against literal carnage on the streets of Kyiv and Mariupol?
