Pam Smith, CPI, officer manager/president of A.W. Kincaid Inc. Well Drilling Water Systems in Canastota, New York, discusses the benefits of being a Certified Pump Installer (CPI) by NGWA as well as her experience working in the field. Smith, who began working full time at the fourth-generation business in 1985 and earned the CPI designation in 2004, shares her favorite aspects of installing and troubleshooting a water system and other pump-related information in the 6-minute video. Marvin F. Glotfelty, RG, shares two string weight analysis examples from 2003 in a 10-minute video. Glotfelty shows that adding filter pack sand increases the string weight by tens of thousands of pounds in some cases and swabbing that filter pack to settle it further increases that string weight. Glotfelty also concludes that if there are multiple screened intervals, the uppermost filter pack intervals will have less impact than the lower one, and bentonite and cement annular seals both apply buoyancy effect that seem to relieve these stresses.
