Landfill ban stimulates composting programs in Nova Scotia.

The effect of a ban on the disposal of organics in Nova Scotia, Canada, has led to an increase in composting programmes. A report is presented of the progress made and on the ongoing challenges facing the composting industry in the various regions of the province. Problems encountered have included acceptance of composting carts, contamination, facility odours, fruit flies, maggots and cart odour, the media, and delinquent municipalities.
