Most cars, especially classic cars, have a number of faults which occur quite frequently and tend not to be the most enjoyable to correct. One such job on a Mini is to replace the timing cover gasket and oil seal. There is no quick and easy way to fix this oil leak and it is necessary to remove a side-mounted radiator to gain sufficient access to the cover area. It is just a case of setting aside adequate time and attacking the job in a methodical way. Once it has been completed, though, there is a great feeling of satisfaction and the benefit of no more pools of oil on the drive or garage floor - at least from this area of your Mini. The job seen here was carried out on a Mk3 Mini and the procedure will be similar on all side-mounted radiator Minis. The gasket renewal procedure will be the same on MPi Minis but dealing with components like the radiator and fan, etc., will be different.
